LAKE TEMENGGOR - HULU PERAK DISTRICT About 45km from Gerik in north-east Perak near the mid point of the East-West Highway, is a lake measuring about 1 5,200ha. Rich in fish species, it is a favourite playground for anglers. The surrounding area is ideal for jungle trekking, boating and camping while a visit to an aboriginal settlement can be arranged. DR. SEENIVASAGAM PARK - IPOH Located at Jalan Anderson is DR.. Seenivasagam Park. The fresh atmosphere and variety of flora are the main attractions of this park. The Park has several sports fields, a flower nursery, a landscaped Japanese garden and an artificial lake with boating facilities. There is also a children’s playground with roller-skating rink and a mini-train track.
JAPANESE GARDEN - IPOH Located near the Perak Turf Club in Ipoh, this public park recreates the aesthetics of a Japanese garden. It contains a goldfish pond, wooden bridge and a small Japanese house in an attempt to simulate the meditative atmosphere of the traditional Japanese garden. The grounds are filled with tropical flowers, plants and trees. A colourful floral clock on a slope gives the time.

BUKIT LARUT (MAXWELL HILL) - TAIPING Bukit Larut is situated in the northeast of Taiping and was formerly known as Maxwell Hill. It is Malaysia’s smallest and oldest hill station and was once the retreat for colonial administrators. This resort is especially popular with nature lovers, bird watchers and day trippers. The country’s only tulip nurseries are located here and are open from December to April. There is accommodation here in the form of rest houses and bungalows. TAIPING LAKE GARDENS - TAIPING This is the first cultivated gardens in the country and is regarded as one of the best. A popular venue with the locals for morning walks and evening jogs, it is very well landscaped. Huge angsana trees arch over the streets here, creating a shady boulevard that expands towards the lake. Nearby is the Taiping War Cemetery, the final resting place of the soldiers who fought in the Pacific War against the Japanese.
The Taiping Lake Gardens was the first cultivated gardens in the country and is still one of the best. It is well landscaped and has a great variety of flora and fauna. The country’s first zoo, Taiping Zoo, is also located here. Visitors can now observe the nocturnal habits of animals in a night safari, which takes them through the gardens and zoo areas where they can watch animals that come out in the night to feed and play. KUALA SEPETANG RECREATIONAL FOREST - MATANG DISTRICT
On the west of Perak, 10km from Taiping, lies a well-managed mangrove forest in the district of Matang. Home to the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve. Covering more than 40,000 hectares, it is recognised as one of the most well-managed expanses of mangrove swamps in the world. Rich in tree species, bird and aquatic life, the Matang Reserve is a heaven for eco tourists and nature lovers.

KUALA GULA BIRD SANCTUARY - KERIAN DISTRICT
Kuala Gula, a small fishing village located in Kerian, on the coastline of Perak, is approximately 50km to the west of Taiping. Kuala Gula forms part of the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, which consists of vast stretches of tidal mudflats. The abundance of water birds here has made it popular for bird watching. The area is valuable as a migratory site and nesting ground for some resident birds.
Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary For avid bird watchers, the Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary is a must. Over 160 species of birds have been recorded within the sanctuary. The rare Milky Stork has made the sanctuary its home. From September to December each year, there is a massive influx of migratory birds. Kuala Gula is also home to a variety of land and sea mammals such as the smooth otter, the dusky leaf monkey, the long tailed macaque and the ridge-backed dolphin. WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CENTRE - BATANG PADANG DISTRICT About 40km from Teluk Intan in Sungkai is the Wildlife Conservation Centre, where more than 100 deer roam freely on a breeding and conservation site. This farm also houses the seladang or Malaysian Gaur and various species of birds.

RIVER TERRAPIN BREEDING CENTRE - PERAK TENGAH DISTRICT About 40km southwest of lpoh in the unassuming town of Bota Kanan lies the River Terrapin Breeding Centre. The hatchery is near the Perak River bank, which was once home to an abundance of these river creatures. From November to February, visitors can observe migrating river terrapins swimming upstream to lay their eggs.
